Save a new word in one tap.

Type the word and carry on. It comes back tomorrow, next week, next month, until it sticks.

  • One tap from the Home Screen or Lock Screen
  • A meaning and an example sentence, yours or the AI's
  • A minute of practice when a word is due

Free. Works offline. No account to start.

The moment

One tap, like a note.

You hear a word you do not know, you mean to look it up, and by the evening it is gone.

Save it in a second. The word is the whole job, so you never stop listening to write a meaning or wait for a connection.

One capture seven seconds, start to finish

0:00

…das kann ich gut nachvollziehen, ehrlich gesagt.

You hear it. You do not know it.
0:03
Add word From the Home Screen. The app never has to open.
0:07
nachvollziehen Saved on the device. The meaning can wait.

Back to listening before the next sentence ends.

The loop

Capture, meaning, review.

Three steps, and only the first one has to happen right away.

nachvollziehen
+ Add card

On the device before you lock the phone.

01 Capture

One field, one tap.

Type the word and it is saved before anything else happens. No folder to choose first and no meaning required. If you are on a train with no signal it still lands.

Explain with AI

or write it yourself

to follow someone's reasoning

02 Meaning

A meaning, and a sentence to see it in.

Write what it means in your own words, which works offline and needs no account. Or tap Explain with AI for a translation, a short definition and an example sentence. The word you typed is never rewritten.

Again
Hard
Good
Easy

Answer honestly. The gap does the rest.

03 Review

It comes back on its own.

Cards return on an SM-2 schedule, the same algorithm behind Anki. Four answers: Again, Hard, Good, Easy. A word you find easy waits months. A word you fumble comes back tomorrow. A minute when it is due, and the schedule does the remembering.

Context

Every card came from your life.

You remember the airport sign as well as the word on it.

  • Nebenkosten on the phone with the landlord, twice, fast
  • serendipity a podcast on the way to work
  • Bauchtasche a sign at the airport, on the way to the gate
  • nachvollziehen a colleague, in the middle of a long meeting

Months later it reads like a diary of what you were doing.

Details

Small things that decide whether you keep using it.

Works offline

Your words live on the device, so capture, search and review never wait for the network. Changes sync by themselves once you are back online.

No account to start

Open it and start typing. An account is only for syncing to a second device and for the AI, so if you want neither, you never need one.

One tap from the Home Screen

Vendera makes you an iOS Shortcut tied to your deck. Put it on the Home Screen or the Lock Screen and a word goes in without opening the app.

Find any word again

Type part of it and it comes up. Folders are there when a deck gets big, and ignoring them is fine.

Ten languages

Pick the language you speak and the one you are learning. English, Türkçe, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Nederlands, Русский and العربية.

Export or delete, any time

Export the deck whenever you want. Deleting your account from Settings removes the words stored with it.

Questions

Before you start.

What is Vendera?

Vendera is a personal vocabulary app. You capture a word you met in real life, give it a meaning, and the app brings it back on a spaced repetition schedule until you know it. It is a notebook that remembers for you.

Which languages does it work with?

You pick the language you speak and the one you are learning, from ten: English, Türkçe, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Nederlands, Русский and العربية. The examples on this page happen to be German. Nothing in the app is tied to it, and you can change either language in Settings whenever you want.

Do I need an account?

No. Capture, your deck, search and review all work with no account at all. An account is there for syncing to a second device and for the AI meanings. You can make one later and keep the words you already saved.

Does it really work offline?

Yes. A capture made on a plane is written to the device straight away, and so is an edit or a review answer. If you have an account, the queue empties itself the next time you are online.

How is this different from Anki?

Vendera uses SM-2, the same scheduling algorithm as Anki, so the review part behaves in a familiar way. The difference is the front door. Anki is a general flashcard system you configure. Vendera does one thing: it catches a word in the second you meet it and gives it back to you later. There are no note types, no add-ons and no deck options to set up.

Where do the meanings come from?

From you, or from the AI, whichever you prefer for that card. Writing one yourself works offline and needs no account. The AI drafts a translation, a short definition and an example sentence, which needs an account and a connection, and it stays switched off until you turn it on in Settings. Either way the meaning is editable and the word you typed is never changed.

Is there an iPhone app?

Vendera installs to the Home Screen as a web app and runs full screen like any other app. There is also a native iPhone app, built from the same codebase and holding the same deck, with a Home Screen widget, a Lock Screen complication and an Add Word action in Shortcuts. It is on its way to the App Store.

What happens to my words?

They live on your device. With an account they also sync to your other devices so you can capture on a phone and review on a laptop. You can export the deck at any time, and deleting your account removes the words stored with it.

Start with one word.

The one you had to look up this week.

Free to open. Nothing to install.
